From 25 to 26 April, the Ministry of Communications of Russia conducts a Sochi XV International Forum "Development of Telecommunications in Russia". The Forum will bring together representatives of business circles interested in telecommunications services.
Last year, the Forum brought together more than 100 people, once again demonstrating the need for a meeting of leading experts telecommunications industry. The Forum continues to be primarily the consideration of promising trends in this market segment.
The Forum will focus on new technological solutions and business models the industry and is represented by an analyst of foreign and Russian telecommunications market।

The Governor proposed the creation of a special economic zone
Establishment of special economic zone of Sochi, according to Alexander Tkachev, in particular, is necessary for the effective management of facilities being built for the upcoming Olympic Games in 2014.
"As postolimpiyskogo heritage, enormous resources are invested in sports facilities, and price increases, so the initiative to create free economic zones is supported by us. I note that in the city of Sochi to create a free economic zone to me it seems appropriate right now, "- quoted by Interfax Tkachev.
Also, the governor noted that many construction projects in Sochi will be built, and that the rules have been applied, you need at least a year and a half. "Therefore, I consider it advisable to establish such a zone in Sochi, and assign" Resorts of the North Caucasus, "a single management company" - added Tkachev.
According to him, "it relates directly to sports facilities, which are now under construction and will be operated."

Corruption on the Olympic building in Sochi to be investigated from England.
This subject will be one of the first in whom the International anti-corruption committee created by the Russian businessmen, living in Britain will be engaged.
Today, on March 9, International Anti-corruption Committee (IACC) declares the official registration and will present the list of the persons mixed, according to committee, in various corruption schemes in the territory of Russia. The purpose of activity of the new organization - investigation of crimes of the corresponding sort, detection of foreign accounts of persons involved, development of recommendations at the leaders of other countries to enter a ban on entrance of specific Russian corrupt officials, and also the publication of names of foreign participants of the Russian crimes, reports "RIA Novosti news agency".
One of founders of IACC is the former director general of construction company "Moskonversprom" who, allegedly, became the victim of the corruption crimes connected with the Olympic construction in Sochi. For this reason the corruption schemes working in Sochi, will be investigated first of all.

Business Behavior in Russia
As a foreigner, you are expected to be on time to all business appointments. However, your Russian counterpart may be late, as this may be a test of your patience. Do not expect an apology from a late Russian, and do not demonstrate any kind of attitude if your business appointments begin one or two hours late. This may also be a test of your patience.
Social events are more relaxed. It is acceptable for foreigners to be 15 to 30 minutes late.
Patience is an extremely important virtue among Russians; punctuality is not.
Russians are known as great "sitters" during negotiations, this demonstrates their tremendous patience.
The U.S.S.R. was officially an atheist nation in the days of communism. Now, however, participation in religion in increasing, with many citizens practicing Protestantism, Islam, Russian Orthodoxy, and Judaism.
Some 'hard-line' Russians still view compromise as a sign of weakness, and often refuse to back down. To these individuals, compromising is bad business.
As a foreigner, you should realize that "Final Offers" are often not actually the end of the negotiations, and that often times the outcome will be more beneficial and attractive if you can hold out.
There is a Russian term meaning "connections" or "influences. It is extremely difficult to do business in Russia without help from a local. To help with this, gifts, money or other items are often a good idea when doing business in Russia.
If attending dinner at a family residence, it is appropriate to bring a gift, such as a bottle of wine, dessert, or a bouquet of flowers.
When shaking hands with someone, be sure to take off your gloves, as it is considered rude not to.
When attending any formal engagements such as the theatre, it is appropriate to check your coat and other belongings at the front door of the establishment.
Do not show the soles of your shoes, as this is considered impolite. They are considered dirty, and should never come in contact with any type of seat (like on a subway or bus).
Be sure to have plenty of business cards with double sides of information. One side should be printed in English, the other side in Russian.
Be alert and open to taking a drink or having a toast, as refusing to do so is a serious breach of etiquette.

Is Russia a good place to do business?
It depends what you want to do. However, the common characteristics about companies that are successful in Russian business are that they committed, dedicated and serious. Russia, we were once told, is not a market for 'dilettantes'.
This should be obvious; however, for reasons that have never been quite clear to us, there is an all-too-common misconception that business in Russia should be easy and that if a piece of big business hasn't fallen in one's lap, one just hasn't pulled the right strings or met the right person. One can always relate cases of where this has indeed happened, but in general they are very rare.
Another all-too-common misconception is that Russian business is quite difficult. The truth, as always, lies somewhere in-between: for those companies who are prepared to do all the groundwork and take the market seriously, yes, Russia usually is a good place to do business.
It is probably fair to say that the Russian market still shows great inefficiencies in many areas, and that certain sections of the market (sectoral and geographical) are greatly undersupplied or underexploited. Some of the best opportunities lie in these areas. Of course, such opportunities come with their own problems: after all, if there were nothing to it, everyone would be doing it, right?
However, Russia is not for everyone, and it takes a special temperament to succeed here. Business in Russia is not for the timid middle unimaginative, or the unadventurous entrepreneur who has never worked outside his country, nor for the easily frazzled or frustrated. Meeting the challenges of doing business in Russia requires all the stamina, fortitude, perseverance, and patience one can muster.
