May 9 - Victory Day in Russia, a national holiday which remembers the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II and honors 20 million Soviets who died in the war. In Russia almost all the families have at least one person who took part in the war. The number of survivors is getting less every year. Victory Day honors those people who took part in a ’patriotic war’.

On May 9, 2005 , the 60-th Anniversary of the Victory Day, a Military Parade of World War II veterans and Russia’s Armed Forces, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazi Germany, has been conducted in the Red Square in Moscow. The parade was watched by more than 50 world leaders, among whom The American President Mr. George W. Bush and The German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
